i am painting the bottom 3 quarters of my lounge room a darkish green what colour should i do the top quarter?

i have a picture rail 3 quarters up which i will be painting bright white to seperate the colours. i'm not sure on green as the colour does anyone have any other ideas

I was initially going to recommend a pale, minty green, or even a calming sage. However, I might go with a dark, chocolaty or mahogany brown for the railing, rather than white. Of course, the white may work as well, just not quite as well in my mind's eye.

In fashion, I see a lot of greens paired with light oranges, and with greys too. I think bold is beautiful, so I love these kinds of somewhat odd combinations. Might not be for everyone though.

There are websites available where you can see what paint will look like on the walls of a room. It's fun to play with these to get a feel for what looks good for what you want to do. Even if you don't use the exact brand or if the room isn't really what you designed like yours you can still get a better idea of how the paint will look on the walls. Personally, since you said this is your lounge room.......for relaxation......I'd keep the colors calming. Maybe a neutral shade for the middle and a lighter shade for the top? Maybe even a blue? Play with the websites below until you find a conbination you like.

buy a color wheel at an art store they are about 3 bucks you can adjust it to find colors that contrast and ones that don't.you you will amaze yourself at the options you will have dont go to a paint store, they dont sell them .they want you to buy testers,art stores, i think wall-mart has them.you will love it now get to it get in your van and go, get to it Leanardo,then feel free to paint my home,

Unfortunately I was not your decorator as I NEVER would have chosen a dark green..... BUT you have done it.. and a white line up so far.. So.. since you have already done that, I would paint the upper part a SOFT(I mean SOFT) green with a satin finish(rubber based of course and not oil based paint)... I HOPE that your dark green was a satin finish and NOT a semi-gloss but if it is.. so be it

I would do a redish brown, but make it a little dark as well. May want to have that rail be a natural wood, rather than painting it, especially not white. Whatever you do don't paint the top portion of the wall lite or pastel green, it looks horrible. The apartment I moved into was painted like that with a floral broder dividing it. It was nasty looking. I repainted all the walls in the living room area antique white, and feather dusted two walls will a medium tan color paint. It looks so much better.

Beige or a dark tan, also make your chair rail "trim" an off white , mabey linen white or navajo white.
