have my brother look after it? I should be in Japan for 3-5 years so it does not make sense to store it until i get back. It is worth $7,300 but i still owe $4,900 to the bank. My brother is only 16 so he probably would not take the best care of it. At the same time, if my mother's van broke down she would still have reliable transportation. If I sold it I would make out with up to $2400. What would you do?
 
Sell it, either to your family or someone outside the family. BUT, be sure your name is OFF the title, don't be a co-signor. You have a payoff of 4900, get at least that from family, more from a stranger of course. But don't continue to make payments and let family "take care of it". It won't be the car you left when you get back.
