I am looking around to buy my first pit bike. Is buying online a good idea? Suggestions

on models or brands? I noticed some on line stores with very competitive prices...anyone had some bad experiences with buying a pit bike online?
I am a total beginner, but i am pretty sporty and dont want to have to buy a better model in a few months or so...
anyone suggestions on a well priced step-in/medium model or brand?
