I am having problems w/ 98 Dodge Neon?

I just got the oil changed and changed the spark plugs and wires. All the fluid is good. New struts in the back and new calipers in the front. All these new parts and the engine still makes a knocking sound. (I know the calipers and struts have nothing to do with the engine lol).. What else should I have checked to resolve this annoying knocking noise? It sounded bad before i got the oil changed in March and when I changed the oil the knockin stopped. Now its making the noise again so I changed the oil but its still knocking. What do I do?

First of all is it a "thud, thud, thud" type of noise or does it sound like a bunch of marbles in the top of the engine? If it is the first option it is probably a rod or main bearing going out. If it is the marble type of rattle then make sure that the correct oil weight was used when the oil was changed. Many 1990's and newer motors can be temperamental when it comes to the weight of the oil due to the size of oil passages. Basicaly the thicker oil has a harder time flowing through the smaller passages which can lead to reduced oil flow and an upper end rattle. Secondly, if the motor has not received regular oil changes or if a oil that contains parifin wax was used in the motor the oil passages might be partially clogged. Parts stores sell an additave that tries to disolve the sludge and waxy build up and then you remove it when you change your oil. If you have quite a few miles on the motor it could be spark knock, weak lifters, worn valve train, etc.

sorry hun, not much you can do.if you can afford it, go into the engine, if you cant either sell it or buy a used engine. sorry i didnt have a cheap fix for ya.

You may have lost or about to lose a piston which can be a costly engine repair. Your best bet would be to try adding Lucas Oil Treatment in your next oil change (Swap it for a quart of oil to prevent over filling). If that fails to solve it, you will have to take it to your local auto mechanic.
