I am having a problem with my Samsung A777...?

I just got the phone about a week ago, and I am trying to put data on a microsd card for use on the phone. The data is on the card, but not recognized by the phone. I deleted the data, got a data cable for the phone, and used that. Nothing. Is there some sort of software I have to download or a setting to change on the phone?
