wondering what signs to seek? I am going to purchase a second hand Range Rover 3.0 TD6 Vogue and am looking for advice for what signs to look out for for example a leaky engine gear box?

PLEASE HELP !

IF I were you I would take along some body that knows what to look for,its so easy to over look some thing which you will later regret, and be costly too.Once you buy it you cant take it back because you over looked some thing, good luck.

The main thing you need is to ensure that it has service history, if they can't prove that it has had regular servicing at reputable garages or main dealers then DON'T buy it.

1 lift engine oil filler cap it should be clean with clean oil on it any white scum give it a miss,2 the header tank remove cap (not while running or hot) the water should be clean maybe blue with anti freeze it should not be scummy or have oil in it nor should there be a white scum in it , if it has give it a miss ,3 raise the speed of the engine to about 3000 revs the engine should have a solid sound not rattling or knocking , if it has give it a miss. 4 check the sills by getting down to floor level they should be clear of any rust of fillers if they are freshly painted give it a miss. 5 pull out the dipstick it should have oil on it up to the mark or near any white scum give it a miss. 6 get someone to rev the engine with you at the rear looking at the exhaust when reved it should not have clouds of blue or white smoke billowing out if it does give it a miss. 7 ask for service history check mileage up to 100, 000 should be ok for a couple of years any more give it a miss, 8 Ask for proof that the cambelt has been changed most cambelts well do about 60 000 miles with safety ,Average cars will do about 10,000 per year so its up to you how much life is left in the cambelt. if one breaks it userly wipes out the engine because the cost of repairing it is more than the car is worth. That covers most things to watch out for good luck.
