i am getting new fish, how should i prepare?!?

i am getting new fish. i have a 10 gallon tank, a filter, heater, pebbles, plants, light, net, and this tap water conditioner. i am about to get fish. can i just put water with tap water conditioner in and buy fish tomorrow, or do i have to wait or something? someone please help me!! thank you :).
 
Add the water and let it run through the filter for about 12 hours before you add the fish. Tap water can contain chemicals that can kill a fish. And.... That's really about it.

PS - Make sure it is a freshwater fish, not saltwater.
