I am flying from Australia to England and I need to take my 20" iMac with

me. What's the best way to do it? Will I be able to take it in my carry-on bag like a laptop?
Will it be safe if I firmly pack it in my checked luggage surrounded by clothes, and lock the suitcase?
Would it be a better option to send it via Australia Post, or a courier service such as FedEx?

I believe it weighs about 9kg.
I am flying with Qantas.
This is a one way flight, I am moving permanently.
Yes, I do need to take it with me.

This is NOT a laptop. It's a desktop computer.
 
I ALWAYS keep my laptop with me in my carry on. Not only is it nice to play on it when I'm bored, but that way I know it's safe. I've heard lots of horror stories about broken, stolen laptops. I say don't risk it.
