burden to society.? I am proving that, that is false; the elderly greatly contribute to society in many ways. I have researched but I have not found many articles or facts about it. I would like to get some input about what the elderly contribute to society through means of cultural, economic and emotional aspects? So far under the cultural branch I have that the elderly are staying in the workforce past retirement and how they are passing on knowledge to newer employees, providing child care for families and volunteering in the community. Economic I was going to talk about how the elderly enjoy traveling, buying multiple properties and spending more money on leisure items (Cars, houses, boats, etc.) Emotional I was going to talk about how veterans (all elderly) can talk to soldiers going through rehabilitation and serve as a support group, speeches to the younger generation and passing on their stories, I need a few more points. With this project I must create a product, for my product I am making a photo journal. I am going to interview elderly at the local senior recreation center and in nursing homes and photograph them and get their biographies. Once that is done, I am going to type up their stories and incorporate their photos and put it in a bound book and distribute the books throughout the community so that their stories are never lost. If anyone knows any good websites, books or has an information they are willing to share please let me know :]
 
You may well be on the wrong side of the argument; to a huge extent, most of the "elderley population" ARE a HUGE burden on the rest of society, since they typically pull out far more from Social Security than they ever contributed, and are bankrupting our nation by using Medicaid & Medicare.
 
Wow!!! You are doing a great article. And you have figured it all out pretty good. I might suggest you study some AARP magazines they cover all those topics real well too. Many of my senior friends are working as I am and we enjoy giving back to our community and staying involved. Here, I organized the first Neighborhood Watch Program yrs ago which is still running well. I have served on a school board, done various volunteer jobs. In the years we have been married we have visited every continental state but one. We have reared 100 foster children.
