I am debating on joining the Air National Guard.?

I have 6 years Active Duty Air Force. I separated in July 08. I really miss the military, a lot. However, I am enjoying going to school for an associates degree and love Maryland. I was born here, raised here, and God willing.....I will eventually die here. I just don't know if I should joining the Guard or not.

I know they have some education benefits. Unfortunately, I was a a Propulsion troop....I worked on PW 2J-f100-220's and HATED IT!!! Would I have to stay with the same job or not? Also, is there a bonus for going Guard? I know when I separated I was offered 6K to go in as an engine troop and I happily declined.

I was an E5 and just tested for E6, do not know if I made it, doubt it.

So, what does everything think??

i think you should go into the guard recruiting station and ask the recruiters about the benefits and see if they outweigh the negatives of joining. Sheeeit, the air guard has got to be SO easy that the difference between being air guard and not being air guard is a couple of hours of your time 1 weekend a month, and a little extra income.

what have you got to lose?
time away from home for a possible 4 month deployment?
an air force deployment to the middle east is a vacation.
psh...no biggie you can do it just fine

i say go for it man

and no you dont have to have the same job. You can enlist for a different one. You were once a good airmen, i think the air force would rather have you back in the air force doing a different job then not having you at all.
