I am constantly rotting the muffler on my 6cyl 94 Mazda MPV(admitedlly I only drive it less than 2k per year).?

, a friend has a similar issue with his MPV. Is it possible that the muffler assembly is the same as the 4cylinder model, and should have been a different design for the 6cylinder ?. Also, this vehicle revs VERY HIGH on starting, and takes about 3minutes to cut down to a reasonable steady idle. Sick of replacing mufflers on a vehicle I hardly ever drive !. Also, the whole underside of this vehicle is rusted (surface), another common problem for this van, anyone ever heard of this ? THANK YOU
