I an being summoned to court as a witness, and told if I don't go I will be arrested. Thing is I didn't realise I was going against the defence in my statement, as I don't believe he did the crime he is up for. I know I have to go, but do I have to speak and answer their questions when I am there? Can I just say my statement and that's it?

I'm in the UK

Witnesses do not get to decide which questions to answer. If a question is posed and someone objects to it, the judge decides, based on the rules of evidence. No one will ask you opinion about who did what. You will be asked only what you saw, heard, smelled or touched on a specific day and place.
