I bought a car in California and I was not given the option to take an out of state delivery where the dealer drives the car to the border and I take possession there.(this was told to me when I said I was supposed to pay AZ taxes but the finance man sluffed me off and said "oh they are about the same") after I had driven the car off the lot home to Arizona.
They even charged and then refunded me when I complained that they had charged me for California Registration fees when they knew I lived in Arizona. They had also neglected to give me a one way permit, which I hadto fill out over a week later and return to them.
Now they say, I am not entitled to be refunded the overcharge on the taxes, and I will hv to pay an additional 2% in my city in AZ that will hv to come out of my own pocket. because I have already taken possession, but they never offered me the out of state delivery option in the first place. so I would n't hv to pay CA taxes which were higher than AZ taxes.
What recourse do I hv??
My purchase of the 2010 Toyota had been a repossesion and the car was not from California originally, and had only 8,000 miles on it and I did not purchase it to avoid the higher tax in CA.
It was just the RIGHT one and since I am in Indio each month, I happened upon it by chance.
The dealership customer relations toldme that they sell many autos to Arizona residents and deliver them to the border with a car following to take the driver back to the dealership, and then the new owner/passenger takes possession there. (It is only about 80 miles.)
This option was never given to me, even after I told them that "shouldn't I be paying AZ taxes??"
It just seemed, that the man who did the paperwork, was in a big hurry andmade many mistakes.
Even now, when I went to register car, AZ DMV said that the title had to be from the dealership where I purchased( I-10 Toyota), not from where they got the car, so now I had to send back all paperwork, for them to transfer the title into their name and the
