I’m just getting into photography (bought a canon xsi dslr) and ive got 2 questions. First, why do I want a power battery grip? Second, what other accessories do you suggest? I’ve already got a few things in mind like a couple of lenses other than the kit on (wide angle, kit, etc) and maybe a flash/tripod. Thanks. Ps, ive got dozens of books and a couple of mentors already. thats not to say that i dont welcome book suggestions, i'll take whatever i can get. happy holidays.
I plan on doing an assortment of shot types. from action/sports to nature and wildlife.

The power battery grip serves a few purposes. The first purpose is that it can hold more batteries so you lower the risk of your batteries dying on an important shoot. A second purpose is that it makes the camera bugger and bulkier, which some people like. A third purpose is that it gives you a grip and shutter release button that make holding the camera vertical easier. Sooo you don't NEED a battery grip, but if you want any of those features it can be nice.

As for other accessories, that's only something you can decide. Hold off on accessories for now and just do some shooting. After shooting for awhile you may find some shortcomings in your setup ("I wish I had a telephoto so I could shoot that bird"). When that happens is the time to buy accessories that address your specific problems.
