I am a cancer survivor, and have been on hydromorphine now for like 2 years...The radiation for the cancer ate up ALL my lower half of my body,in 2006 I had EVERYTHING removed....Now I am in horrific pain and have to continue to take this medicine...My lower back aches ALL THE TIME and my abdominal area stays sore too...My pain management Dr. has tried to prescribe me medicine for breakthru pain but NOTHING helps but the diluaid.
My pain is a way of life but,I am afraid if not already that I will become a addict, and i dont want that...My prescribed dose is 1-2 8 mgs.every 6 hours BUT for 1 1/2 years Ive taken 3 8mgs. and that does for the most part cut the pain....When I do take the 3 that lasts usually all day and I USUALLY dont have to take more but if I do (because I have a active day) I take like 6 for that day...
I guess what I am asking does there come a point where you just stop taking medication like this so you dont become addicted and just live in horrfic pain or take the medicine and risk becoming addicted to the medicine? I dont get high anymore I think my body is used to it,thank goodness...But it does stop the pain ...Any thoughts???
