Hell, slavery still exists in the USA. Illegally, and it is prosecuted, but it does prey on ignorant immigrants who find themselves trapped in illegal contracts.
We are in grave danger of being under surveillance 24 hours a day. This is already happening in public places in Britain, which has a very high number of cameras recording everything that is going on. I can't object to this very strongly - after all the police have the duty to watch over the public, and a camera is nothing but the extension of a policeman's eye. But the monitoring of e-mail and personal phone calls is very alarming. Our very own fearless leader is quite the tyrant in this regard.
In the war on drugs, lab testing of sewage has become so sophisticated that labs can identify hundreds of drugs in municipal waste in just a small sample. Conceivably these waste streams could be tracked back to individual toilets. Do we really want the law to go this far?
