Hugh Grant: What do you think of him?

I've been curious about this for a while now.
It annoys me the amount of movies he's done playing the same role again and again, always the awkward English toff who eventually finRAB love.
Then in Italy yesterday, I saw Bridget Jones: The edge of reason and seeing him in that role as a love-rat reminded me how great an actor he can be when he's playing a completely different role to normal. Yes, he's still an English toff in the BJ movies but at least he's a slimy one instead of a nicey nice one which makes a change and is actually more likeable this way.
Its just a shame he didn't diversify his roles more often.
Just when I thought that maybe he's ditched his usual kind of movies, sure enough I see "Music & Lyrics" being advertised. Looks like the Bridget Jones movies were just blips in an otherwise same old, same old routine.
What do others think of him as an actor and the decisions he made in his acting career?
Do you think Im being harsh or do you think he should've taken different types of roles after "4 weddings and a funeral"?

He genuinely a good actor. Seems he's a bit of a plonker in real life, and is often type-cast as a hesitating floppy haired fop, but when he gets a good role, he's good at his job. No complaints from me.

Before he was famous, he played more varied roles - smaller ones with more character, so I'd like to see him doing more than the English fop stuff again. :)
