HTML in my Tumblr Description messes up my format?

Whenever i put some kind of HTML, like a hit counter/user online counter, my description moves around.
example of what i want it to look like:
Hi. (my name)
twitter
youtube
1 user(s) online

example of what it actually looks like, when i don't want it to look like this:
Hi. (my name) twitter youtube 1 user(s) online

why is it doing this?!?!?
