HTML editor not working in wordpress 2.7.1?

when i go to edit a page in the wp-admin section, it says the page is Done, but with errors on page.

In the box where you write the page it says it is on visual, but is showing HTML. When I type & it is changing this to UTR-8 code. i.e &

How can i change it so it works how it should?
