HTML doesn't work for me in my forum?

i'm in a forum that usually allows HTML for editing posts with italics and word sizes, but i'm having alot of trouble... i went into my profile and preferences and selected "always allow HTML"
unfortunately it still shows up as:
HTML is OFF
BBCode is ON
Smilies are ON
