HTML Code - Image Links?

I am creating a web site for a class project using HTML code using Notepad. My navigation bar consists of buttons I created in photoshop. The buttons have a transparent background and when I made the buttons into links, they have a purple square around the button. How do I get rid of that purple square?

...the buttons are a .png file, if that matters.
the border is not from the image, it is from the link. it is purple; indicating the link has been visited.
nvm, i guess that did the trick!
