HTC Thunderbolt Screen Repair Issue with Menu buttons?

Need some type of assistance on a thunderbolt screen. Replaced a cracked LCD and Glass, they function PERFECT but there is no menu button response. Noticed there is an optical clear flex cable running to led's on motherboard, previous screen assembly has cable, ordered two screen assemblies and neither have this cable. It cannot be swapped from old to new. If these menu buttons are only tied to the digitizer is my big question, or are they light sensor controlled?
If they are light sensor controlled, is there a macguyver way to run a bit of this material to these points to achieve the same results?
Better yet, is there a supplier known to carry this part? Countless searches have led nowhere.
I have usually answered questions on here in the past but figure it is a good chance to get help when I need it. After repairing too many touch screens to count at this point it is frustrating to be thrown for a loop by a HTC Evo knock-off. Thanks in advance to whatever fellow phone geek that knows the answer to my issue.
