Htc S620 V/s Palm Treo 680

I am located in Canada and service provider is Rogers. I am eligible for a hardware upgrade and from the available phone I can upgrade to,my final 2 came up to the HTC S620 and the Palm treo 680. Now I can't make up my mind between these 2.

Here is what I am looking for:

Must have - organizer, excel and words(that can be viewed and edit), mp3, camera (decent quality pic)

I am new to this forum and also a newbie in smartphones. so any advice and comments would be greatly appreciated and of great help here.

Those of you who have either the HTC S620 or Palm treo 680 or both(lucky you) - what do you think of your phone, what do you like or not/less like about it......
 
If you have to edit the files, then the HTC S620 (a.k.a. T-Mobile Dash) is out as it is a Smartphone and can only view Word and Excel. Also it has the Windows Mobile 5 OS. Prone to random resets for no apparent reason. Some 3rd party software, has to be the smartphone version.

However, I question the utility of editing on a handheld. You just don't have the screen real estate to do it effectively IMHO.

On the other hand is the Palm 680 . It is a Palm with the Palm OS. Old technology. Also prone to random resets for no reason. Been around a long time. Touch screen. Lots of 3rd party software. You really need a backup program sunning on an SD card. I also question hardware quality.

Thanks for the reply. I do not have a lot of choice from Rogers. There is pearl, treo 780 and htc s 620 which i am interested.

Pearl is out as no excel but i thought with HTC and Treo , you could buy excel editor to edit documents.

I will be using excel to record basis stuffs and nothing fancy.
I will be using MP3 when i workout.
Camera is also good to have in case i need to take pics.
I need good organiser and calendar.
I will text message.

I am not sure of the other functions that i can do with the phone. I am a complete NOOB when it comes to phones.

Questions:
What software can i add to palm treo 680 and s620 ?
Are they free and if not, how much approximately they cost?
I spent couple of days reading on this forum and other websites but still very hard to decide.

ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY APPRECIATED.
 
For software, go to handango.com. Some freeware out there, but the good stuff you have to pay for.

WM5 Smartphone software is also on handango and also on smartphone.net.

Make sure you identify the phone before you look at software on handango.com.
 
Which one should i get?

Palm Treo - 299 plus tax plus head set worth 100 to 150 dollars for free acording to the dealer

HTC s620 - 249 plus tax

Leaning towards S620 since i heard that there are lot of drop calls on Treo and software crashing. I also heard the opposite.

Any personal feedback from someone who has those phones would be great,

I got the s620 today since store did not have treo 680. I will see if i like it. If not, i will then take Treo 680/\

I was playing with my friends 680 and it is sexii. It is much smaller than the previous treos and has a decent camera. Lots of free software for it (not just the bad ones). Also something that I love is the infrared capabilities. You can download a good music player for it. The s620 on the other hand, I have not gotten much exposure to it, probably once or twice and it seems almost to thin to be a smartphone/qwerty. wm5 os crashes as much as if not more than palm os. I am actually free of contract with T-mobile and was offered the Dash to extend. I will actually be loving t-mobile for either the palm 680/750 on Cingular or PPC 6800 on Sprint. Only reason I may go with Sprint is because of insurance covering smartphones/PDAs. So that may be another thing to consider, are anyone going to be covered under insurance. Also you have threaded messaging with the treo.
 
What do you mean by infrared capabilities and download a good music player? How does this 2 connect?

By crashing, what do you exactly: do you lose all your data?

I never heard of insurance covering? Is it covered by the service proivders?

What do you mean by threaded messaging?

Sorry for these dumb questions but i have no clue of what they mean.

I just want to add that on the s620 that i just got, there are some dead pixels.

One more thing: What is unlocked and unbranded? I am pretty sure that i know but i just want to confirm what i am thinking they are.
