htc magic(g1) memory and speed help!?

i wanna know if i upgrade my memory chip in my phone to one with more memory will the overall phone performance go faster? right now its probably only 1 gb so if i get like even 2 or 8 will everything speed up like just when scrolling through the apps or using the browser? thanks for the help
