I'm moving from Boost to Sprint and would like to know a few things about the two phones I liked the most at the booth so I can make a decision.
1. J2ME implementation.
I can not stress this enough. I need a phone that can do J2ME. Without it, it's not really worth shelling out all that cash for a phone with a powerful processor and a headphone jack. How exactly does it work on each one? Does the Hero have a way to simulate number control for non-touch games like Devil May Cry 3d and TibiaME?
2. Voice Quality
Sarah is harping on me to get the Hero and she'll get the Moment because the rep at the booth told us the Moment has faster data speeds and the Hero has better voice quality. If this isn't true, then she'll likely not care which one I get.
3. Texting
What exactly is the learning curve for going from numpads to touch? Or is it easier to transition to qwerty? How well does each phone's keyboard work?
4. Processing power in relation to gaming
I'm fully aware that the Hero has less processing power, but will this affect running things, especially 3rd party apps? I'm a huge gamer and I'm hoping, if I'm going to shell out for a super-phone, to turn it into my main emulation machine. By numbers alone, both phones are powerful enough to emulate almost any system up until the ps2 generation, but which one seems to have a better community behind it? On top of that, I'd like to play games like Devil May Cry 3d, Galaxy on Fire, Resident Evil: The Missions, a Quake port, etc.
5. Durability
I'm just a little tough on my phones. When not in use, they go in the left front jeans pocket. I can be clumsy and sometimes drop my phone. This was fine when I was on boost with an i580, but I'm wondering which phone will give me more grief for such misdeeds.
6. Homebrew/hacking community
The android indie development/hacking community at large is just starting out, but which phone have more applications so far been built for?
7. Multimedia
I'd like to pick up a phone, pop in a microSD and finally forego my crappy 1gb stick mp3 player. That being said, I'm interested in which one would do that job better, as well as videos and images. Keep in mind I'd also like to put scanned manga on the card to read.
8. Text Reader
I love putting transcriptions of books on my PSP and DS and reading them when I'm not gaming. Which phone would better accomplish this? Does either one have an actual ebook reading app, official or otherwise?
9. Productivity apps
I'd like to know the way a few key apps on each phone work.
Word Processor
Image Creator/Manipulator
Alarm Clock
Calculator(I'd rather not have to launch a ti-86 emu to get the price of my dinner bill straight)
MicroSD read speed.
I'd like to know which phone will give less lag. On a side note, on either one, can I run games/apps from the MicroSD rather than from the dinky internal memory?
I know it's a tall order, but I'd really appreciate if people who know these phones intimately would give me a good juxtaposition. Thanks.
