HTC Desire strange happenings

I have the HTC Desire and I've recently developed a mildly irritating problem which tends to occur at random deintervals. For no apparent reason and withiut any input from myself the phone will start playing what can be best described as 10th seconds of a polyphonic ringtone version of "Take on me" by Eric Prydz. As I've said the phone could be sitting charging or otherwise and this will start all on its own.

I have the suspicion that some app is misbehaving but I can't be sure. My apps have come from the Market on the phone and the Internet. Is there any possibility that it could be virus or spyware related? I think it was someone on this forum that said there are currently no viruses for the Android OS, only badly designed apps.

Has anyone experienced strange behaviour like this on their phone?

Are you running a custom ROM? Is the music playing directly thru the music app or in the background? Is it always the same song? What folder on your sdcard is this song located in? The more info you provide the better.

Some notifications have been known to get mixed up with being matched with a song from the music library after flashing different ROMS. Have you flashed anything? The more info you provide the better we can try and narrow it down.

There's no viruses or "spyware". You'd have to selectively install an app which takes your information in order for it to even be close to spyware.

It just sounds like a misbehaving app. What apps do you have installed?

A long time ago I had something similar happen on my G1. I use Rings Extended to choose ringtone and notification tones. Sometimes, when I've been using my SD card with my PC (either through USB and mounted via the phone or removed and plugged directly into a reader) and I've messed around with the music files on the SD card (removing, adding, renaming, etc) I seem to end up with a totally random ringtone or notification tone for everything. It's happened to me twice in about 16 months. Could it maybe be this? Does it happen at any particular time (such as when you get a new GMail, or SMS, email, etc.)?

Could also be a malware app or trojan. There are a number of these around from internet sources, and there have been a few on the Market too (anyone remember the app that sent all your friends an MMS with a picture of a gorilla in it?). There are rumours at present that one of the apps that display your free memory contains malicious code.
