HTC Desire Android Market Stuck On Starting Download?

So I got my new HTC Desire phone yesterday and when i opened the market app up i followed the instructions on screen, including setting up a google mail account - not gmail. However when i attempted to download an app, it remained at starting download and has been on it ever since. Does anyone know how to fix this?
