My son is 7 yrs old and the doctor advised me that i should wait to have blood work done on him to test for diabetes. The problem is that his father and grandfather, and basically all the men on that side have diabetes.. His grandfather just passed away from it and his father who is only 29 yrs old has a insulin travel case that is strapped to him. It just worries me cause my son is tiny.. Hes always so thirsty and has to go to the bathroom quite offten .. I dont know i was hoping someone would know... Thank you

My son was 11 when he was diagnosed. I recall the first time we went to the endocrinologist there were babies there as young as 1. When I asked the parents how did they know, the response was the babies diaper was always abnormally full of urine and the baby was excessively thirsty.

I noticed the same symptoms in my son and was told the same thing(to wait). My advise to you is don't wait. Get a second opinion! I waited and my son went into DKA less than 3 weeks later. His blood glucose level was 829. DON'T WAIT!
