My band is looking to record a few chants on our upcoming EP. We have a studio engineer and producer but he's never recorded metalcore/post-hardcore so I don't know if it's going to be a problem and I'd like to be able to help him.
We have plenty of mics. There's 5 of us in the band.
I guess my questions really are...
1.) Should we each record our vocals into our own separate mics (at the same time)
-or- record into 1 mic at separate times
-or- record into 1 mic all at 1 time (a condenser)
2.) Once it's mixed what effects should we use?
Matrix reverb, plate reverb? etc.
Now for a bit more info, I don't know his program he uses but I keep wanting to say ProTools even though he said it WAS NOT that, but a step lower.
Maybe that'd help?
We have a few mics such as Shure SM57, Shure PG58 (I believe?), and some stock Digital Reference mics.
He has his own condenser which is shaped like a ball, I'm not sure of brand or model.
And we have a bass drum mic which is a shure brand.

Asking Alexandria - various songs. "Not The American Average" at the breakdown (02:09)
I'd like to give more examples but frankly I'm stumped at remembering right now.
I'm sure there's enough material for you to listen to right there to figure this out anyway.

We have a Sennheiser mic too, not sure what model, and if my memory serves me correctly a few more Shure's with mesh-tops.
Also, would the acoustics of the room make any difference? Should we search for a place with some awesome natural reverb or just record in a room full of acoustic friendly stuff?
