That religion is an important element of life. Really stuck here for what points to make!

how can you believe what is written in the Bible when there is no proof of it.

how many wars have been caused and fought over because of religion.

I once went to Israel and every other church was claiming to be this that and the other, They can`t all be right. probably none of them are.

Belief in a creator and possibly an after life gives some people hope. The feeling that it is all worth while and that they are here for a reason. In society it has been a way for the church (powerful people) to control the masses. This may not be seen as a good thing but if people follow the ideas of a religious leader they feel secure and you are less likely to get uprisings and anarchy. Religion has always been a way to instill morale behaviour - which helps societies function successfully. If you think about Christianity for example, the 10 commandments are basically good rules for any society even if you don't believe the whole Bible thing. A lot of charities are based in religion and a lot of good causes are funded by religious groups. Some religions state that a percentage of a persons income must be given to help others.
Of course, there are lots of arguments against but that's not what you asked so I'll not go there.

Just argue that morality and religion are not dependent upon each other.
Then, look at how many happy, successful atheists and agnostics there are.
Finally, you can also argue the negative: how religion makes people UNHAPPY (war, excommunication, disfellowship, etc.)
