There have been some recent court battles over the posting of the Ten Commandments in courtrooms or in public schools. Those who favor their inclusion argue that the Ten Commandments are a moral code that underpins general public morality. The question is whether posting them favors a specific religious tradition and, as such, violates the constitutional separation of church and state.

There is no Constitutional separation of Church and State. The Constitution merely prohibits the government from establishing a religion or impeding the free exercise of a religion. Posting the Ten Commandments favors the traditions of Judaism and Christianity over other religions. The Ten Commandments, although the basis of western moral thought are not state law and have no proper place in public courtrooms and schools.
