How would you help a stranger asking directions?

Let's say a stranger asked you directions to get to an address 30 miles away. Which of the two following answers would you prefer to give.

1) Give simple directions that the person can clearly understand to get to a destination halfway ( 15 miles ) to the desired destination, and then say, once you get there ask someone there directions to get the rest of the way., or
2) Give a complete set of directions, which involves twice as much information some of which the person may or may not forget and get lost

Please expalin your answer. Do you see these options as providing insight into how we teach people to learn and reach objectives?
