seeing as so much of it is ghastly? The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; petty, unjust, unforgiving, control freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty, ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevent bully." says Richard Dawkins.
I was staying in a hotel a while back & wondered whether Richard Dawkins was exaggerating so I looked at a random page in the Bible in the cupboard next to my bed. How can anyone disagree l when I chanced upon THIS verse:
Then the Lord said to Moses,"Write an account of this victory,so it will be remembered.Tell Joshua that I will completely destroy the Amalekites."Exodus 17,v14. He said, "Hold high the banner of the Lord! The Lord will continue to fight the Amalekites forever!"v16.
(From the the 'Good News' Bible) -Was this 'good news' for Amalekite babies? I could quote more ghastly Old Testament verses but I'm afraid I don't have enough space here so let's talk about this one.
