How would the civil war have turned out if Lee had fought for the North?

I've always wondered this, because it seems like the only big thing the North lacked was a great commander, and Lee was the best commander in the whole war. In fact, Robert E Lee was Lincolns first choice for the commander of the army of the potomac, and allmost fought for the North. What would have happened had the best General in the whole war fought for the North instead of the South. Not only would the south had not had Lee, but the North would have had him.
