how would i know if theres something wrong with the transmission in a 1999 mazda...

it only has 85,000 miles but i dont know if its the transmission.when i floor it after it passes 50 it starts hesitating.
 
Need more info on this, how many miles are on it is it Manual of Automatic?... Because it is a 99 your car is a the Car is a OBD II which can be scaned by a scan tool... thats only if thiers a check engine/trans light on.
 
I have a mazda 1999 protege about 5 years ago transmission started acting up car had trouble accelerating would not go back when put in reverse had to have the transmission rebuilt cost 1, 500.00 this seems to be a problem with mazda cars.
