How would I go about getting commerical jobs as a photographer?

I was wondering if most large companies likeBaby/Kids Gap, Babies r us, etc etc go through agencies to hire their photographers? I am wanting to do a lot of editorial and commercial work, I specialize in children's photography. I have a lot of people who tell me my work is more commerical/editorial than portrait. How would I go about getting my work noticed by these companies that cater to children.
