This means that the computer is not finding something to boot up off of. Like your hard drive.

Contact HP or you can check to see if it will boot off of a CD like a windows cd.

If so, then the hard drive either crashed or the bios is set to boot off of something other than the hard drive. For that you can change the boot order.

To do that you'll need to find out how to get into the bios for your Motherboard. In the Advanced options you can find the boot order. Just make sure the hard drive is selected.

If it still does not work, you'll need help with changing it out and installing the Operating system.

Usually means that you need to move whatever disc you have in the computer. It's trying to boot from the disc. Take out anything you have in any drive and retry.

media in selected boot device? i keep getting this error on my hp pavilion a250n the message says, reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key, what does that mean? can someone please tell me how to fix that error?

make sure

1. no usb devices are inserted ie usb memory stick, external cd or dvd ( optical drive ) , no external hard drives are attached

2. check in bios to ensure that you have your main hard drive selected as the bootable device

3. if the above is true then your Master Boot Record or Boot.ini file is knackered which you can repair but you will need your installation operating system disc to do so that or create a bart pe disc along with relevant plugins to repair the MBR and edit the boot.ini file

Post back if you get stuck

Sounds like its trying to boot off of non-bootable media...

Try disconnecting all USB drives and making sure there is no CD/DVD/floppy inserted, then reboot.
