i go to boot camp in feb. and will be gone for 2 months. im leaving my 5 year old lab/ dane mix with my sister. she has a cocker spaniel and they get along ok... i know she will take good care of him but i know that he wont get ANYTHING near the love and attention that i give him. how do you think he will cope with this??? will he look out the window everytime he hears a car thinking its going to be me or will he eventually start to like his new part time home?? also, how will he feel when i come home? and if i have to leave again without him?
what if he was left with someone that he liked as much as he likes me...would he still be in as much distress... that sounds like an obvious question but im just trying to reasure both of us. he likes my mom a lot but she lives 800 miles away! he really clings to her though...

Your dog will grieve, but will adjust to his new home. If he is lacking in exercise and attention at his new home, he may also develop some bad habits, like barking, digging, escaping, etc. Since you know he is not going to get much attention there, and you are likely to be unable to keep him for the next several years, you may want to consider rehoming him permanently. It might be the kindest thing for the dog.
