how wide do i have to go with rims?

i have a 1995 eclipse and i want to make is so my tires stick out a little bit all around i want my car to look mean in the front and i thought if i had wider tires itd do the job, but i dont know anythign about rims idk what to ask for at the rim store up the road so much help would be nice, and i wanna keep th rim size 16" maby even 15
