How well does the HTC Hero work when flashed to MetroPCS?

Obviously, it'll be a lot slower, but since it runs Android and all, will I still be able to run the Android Market and apps like Pandora? (Even if I have to use wifi.)
Also, I flashed a Blackberry to Metro PCS and it pretty much destroyed itself inside out. Is the HTC hero pretty reliable even on Metro PCS?
