How was David Silver able to graduate in season 3 of Beverly Hills 90210?

In the pilot and subsequent episodes of season 1, David was a Freshman. The other main characters (Brenda, Brandon, Dylan, Steve, Donna, and Andrea) started out as Juniors, then became Seniors in season 3. Did someone magically turn David into a Senior as well?
Forgot to mention Kelly, sorry.
I just finished reading his character's wiki page. But when did he become a Junior?
