How turbochargers work? AND question on Lexus IS300 turbo.?

Do turbochargers give you more power at higher RPMs? From what I thought, you usually only put a turbo on a manual transmission car because you can get hight RPMs before you shift, unlike an auto transmission when you cannot get above ~2500 RPMs.

Additionally, can the stock Lexus IS300 engine be turbocharged? I've only read that people swap out with a Toyota Supra turbocharged engine, but I was wondering if you could just turbo the stock engine. Is that practical?

turbos just give you more power, not because it pushes it to a higher rpm, but it gives more air to the engine, so fuel supply to the engine is increased automatically. if u put a turbo on your is, it will void ur warranty. And btw, if u live in the US, there is no is 300. just 250 and 350.
