how to write html in notepad?

i am making a small website using notepad for my apprenticeship. its 5 pages long and i have linked it up perfectly. the way i have done it is that the links are in a table to the left of the web page. now i would like to display writing on the center of the page next to the table but i don't know what html to write to make the writing go next to the table. help will be greatly appreciated.
