How to work on getting Muscles solely on my arms?

Three times a week I go to a Karate class, at this class they do certain exercises
20 Jumping Jacks, 10 Push Ups 10 second count each (Slowly go down and up 10 seconds each time)
100 sit ups going forward, 50 going left, 50 going right, and then another 100 going forward, Then we do various stretches to improve flexibility. They sometimes have us squat or sit against walls and have us run quite often. My cardio is good, leg and back muscles are strong... But I have trouble getting 10 simple push ups, let alone 10 second 10 count push ups. What can I do to help get my arm strength up? I would like to be able to do 10 second 10 count push ups with out a problem. Should I left text books with a single hand? How many? How should I left? How many lifts?
I should do extra push ups at home on a daily basis? I don't necessarily want to spend money (on the fact that it's hard enough to pay for Karate Classes) so what are some home exercises I can do? What foods can I eat? Should I start eating more eggs in my diet? Exercises and diets that are as strictly related to arm strength as can be please, thanks!
