How to wipe logic board on an iPhone 3GS that will not turn on?

I smashed my iPhone pretty bad, the screen is destroyed but the logic board I am afraid still works. I am selling it to someone and I do not want them to get my information. How do I "wipe" or clear the system if the phone won't turn on? I even tried connecting it to iTunes. Many thanks!
