How to watch .mp4 movies in Windows Media Center?

I have a bunch of home videos that are .mp4 (dont know why that type) and I have so many, converting is not an option. I want to play the videos through media center because iTunes and Quicktime will not work on my computer. How do I put the mp4 files into media center and view them from there? Please be some what detailed in your answers because I'm not super computer savvy.
I said I'm not converting anything and I want to use Media Player, not anything else.
