How to use unlocked droid eris

another newbie question...i would like to purchase an unlocked droid eris online then use it with my carrier (verizon) without having to pay their hefty service fees. what are the steps i need to take to make this work? how difficult is the process? and, can i retain my current mobile phone #?
 
You're not going to even find an unlocked Droid Eris because there would be no point in 'unlocking' it. The Droid Eris will only work with Verizon anyway.

I'm not sure what 'hefty service fees' you refer to, but you can't just skip over the cost of paying for a cell phone service plan without doing some illegal stuff. The additional $30 a month data plan is standard for this phone.
