How to use Instant Messaging(IM) without a T-mobile data plan?

Hi I am a T-Mobile customer and I use the Sony Ericsson W810i.

Very recently I added the T-Mobile unlimited texting plan. On activating the plan I was told by T-mobile's customer service representative that by activating this plan I will be able to chat with my contacts on MSN/Yahoo through the IM application.

Unfortunately my phone is not a T-mobile supporting phone, therefore when I download third party applications, they require a data plan(which I do not have)

Please help me out on this issue as I really dont want to change my Sony Ericsson phone and I also do not want to add a data plan. Plus I really want to use unlimited texting plan to chat with my msn contacts.Thanks!

P.S. T-Mobile did send the T-zone settings for my Sony Ericsson W810i which have enabled me to send and receive picture messages
 
When i had t mobile, I had a t mobile phone & the im was a feature on the phone.

I'm almost positive that you need to have a t mobile phone to use it.
