How to use gimp photoshop? help pleasssee!?

i saw gimp being praised to heaven in another question about free photo editing software.. i don't care for it...
use the tutorial that comes with gimp...that step by step tutorial for all phases of use of the software, i'm sure gimp has it.

serif photo plus does, and it's free too. Free, with a walkthrough step by step, tutorial. with illustrations.

ok so i have this picture of me and my friend. I look awesome of course.. but my friend has a skinny piece of hair in the middle of her face;
How do I get rid of that?

Some one told me that i can copy a piece of skin and then put it over the hair.. but how do I do that? I couldn't find the tool to copy stuff..
