I wanted to use ceramic mason stains to paint on cone 6 porcelain greenware. The artist Sergei Isupov paints on greenware with mason stains and his color comes out beautifully and very smooth. I would like to be able to use the stains the same way. He says in one source that he uses slip and stain in equal parts, and in another he says just water and stain. When I went to my local ceramic store, they said 25% 3124 frit and 75% stain mixed with water. So I'm wondering which way would get me the same results as Isupov? Also, I've heard that if your mixture is too thick, it will flake off? Any information will be really helpful.
